Root Mean Square Attribute
The Root Mean Square (RMS), or quadratic mean, is a measure of the magnitude of variation over a dataset. The RMS attribute emphasizes the variations of acoustic impedance over a selected interval. RMS amplitude is considered a smoother version of reflection strength. As reflection strengths reveals bright spots and amplitude anomalies, so does RMS.
To apply RMS surface attributes, go to Surface attributes under the Processes tab and double click. Select the amplitude attribute; RMS amplitude. Input the seismic volume cube and add the surface. Select a ‘single horizon’ in the window specifications. Input the surface horizon in the input for reference horizon and select ‘apply’. This attribute is applied all the surfaces and also on the volume attributes.
